Wossit called?

I'm trying to locate a spare part for a bath waste, but don't know what to search for.

It's the type where you have a chrome knob about 60mm diameter where the overflow is. Turning that opens & closes the plughole, they work by a Bowden cable.

What is this type of waste/plug called?

Generally they seem to be referred to as a pop-up waste on eBay

Wickes and B&Q simply call them "pop up wastes", don't know what their "proper" name is.

The one we had on our bath had a non-captive plug, don't know whether that defeats the object or not ;)

That's so you can get the Mrs' fingers in to pull out hair and gunge.

Crap. They always seem to go out of adjustment, frequently not opening enough or not at all if someone stands on the plug when it's in the up position. Easily done if you have a shower over the bath.

I hate them. We've now got a pop-up plug on a spring mechanism that you press to close and press again to open. It's been reliable *so far* but it remains to be seen how durable it is.

A pain. Mine sheared it's nylon drive pinion which is hot moulded to the shaft and was done at too high a temperature making it brittle. I ended up removing the bath to fit the thing back together after I had manufactured a new metal gear pinion with a hacksaw and a file.

Dunno what it's proper name is, but could just be "pain in the ass"!

I had one, also a shower above the bath, so when you took a shower it was too easy to stand on the popped up plug. Eventually it ended up with the plastic trap under the bath shearing off and water flooding into the dining room below. Needless to say the bath panel had been tiled in situ, so a major excavation job to replace the bloody thing.

Not much beats the good old rubber plug!

Double Crap. Often found in hotel baths. Never work. Baz

Well we only bathe once a month on average so ours doesn't get used that much. Time will tell...

I hate them as well. The big chrome knob on this one has come off. Grub screw has sheared, cant get the bugger out.
