The lock screen on my laptop has started showing match box size screens on boot up despite "get fun facts tips and and more from Windows and Cortana..." being unchecked.
Anybody else getting this?

Nope. Linux doesn't have that feaecha.
Yes, it's really good, isn't it?
It's easy to turn off, but why would you?
There are three groups of people:
Those who like it. Those who don't like it, and simply turn it off. Those who waste their time moaning about it.
Is there somewhere else to turn it off then? I have it unchecked.
Clearly there is a fourth group of people:
Thoise who have tried to turn it off and failed
And the fifth group:
Those who have turned it off but MS turned it back on again in the next update. Perhaps with slightly different wording, completely different feature honest guv, we know you wanted it on really.
(as they say, as a Windows user you're no longer the customer you're the product. Apparently people even pay for the privilege?)
Linux awaits you...
Yes, I seem to be one of them. It SEEMS it needs a re-boot to change, I will keep tabs.
Me too! I have most features turned off but still get the odd intrusion.
10 times worse on the i-phone so grateful for small mercies!>In message snipped-for-privacy@news.individual.net>, Jeff Gaines snipped-for-privacy@outlook.com writes
Yes, but not every time I get the screen. It started a few months back, then stopped, and then restarted.

I can see a bunch of matchboxes here.
Note, that on Future Inc corporation-owned web pages, the first half of a web page can be "garbage images", so scroll down half way and work your way back to try to find where the actual article starts.

Why is it that remarks like this totally turn me off from Linux.
Dave
p.s. I notices these on 11 recently...
I have no idea. Perhaps you like being bombarded the faec[h]e[r]s
Settings -> System -> Notifications & Actions
Untick "Show notifications on the lock screen"
(there must be a bit of MS engineering that still wants your computer to behave like a phone!)
Or if you want a command line way to do it:
reg add "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications" /v "LockScreenToastEnabled" /t REG_DWORD /d "0" /f
Brilliant, thank you John :-)
I was using Personalisation > Lock Screen > Get fun facts...
I guess I'm OK until MSFT turns it on again.
I've been using the same licence I bought about 20-30 years ago.
I disliked it enough that, when I discovered that unticking the
"Get fun facts tips and and more from Windows and Cortana" didn't do the job, I looked at the next item down.
"Lock Screen Status" and changed that to "None".
That seems to have fixed it - until the next major update, I suppose.
