Window Blinds for home

I am looking for window blinds for home and wonder if anyone knows, if any are available which when closed allow the light in?

Thanks

Make your own - (d.i.y.)

You can buy roller blind gear very cheaply and fit it with your own choice of fabric. For our bathroom a son chose a lightweight white broderie anglais fabric which means that the room is almost as light as without it when it's pulled down, yet nobody can see in.

Since we have a large window with clear glass that's sometimes useful. It was fitted about twenty years ago and we've had no reason to bother replacing it. It's been laundered a couple of times.

Despite the instructions it doesn't need stiffening.

I've used Blinds2Go a couple of times. Was pleased with their customer service when I phoned up (they didn't speak in an Indian accent which helps a lot). Worth checking over their web site to see if they've got something of use to you:

always give the best impression, I'd prefer to be able to see the real thing in front of me.

Now there's a chat up line if I ever heard one ;)

You can order a sample from their web site. You have to go thru the process of selecting the type/colour you want, then there is a button offering to send a sample, before you actually order.

I guess it might be better if they offered a range of samples, but then they'd probably be inundated with requests which would put costs up. Their present arrangement is probably as good as you could hope for, even if it feels a bit clunky.

The good thing however is that you can request several different samples by selecting each individually. So if you decided on a blue blind but weren't sure which shade matched your requirements you could get samples of them all, by selecting one at a time.

Not a bad company to deal with in my limited experience. They were generously helpful when I experienced a small problem with a blind cutting tool (the tool they supplied was mis-shaped and didn't cut the venetian blind), and shipped a new one immediately I called at no extra cost and with no obstructive comments about talking to the supervisor etc. Companies with that sort of attitude are sadly getting fewer and fewer - which is why I'm very happy to recommend this one to others. I wish them well.

Dream on ... :-)

I trust you too, which is why I went to the site. My response was a general comment and not personal - especially as I don't want any blinds :-)

As I indicated in another reply we made our own roller blind for the only room we have one in. For our caravan we went to Argos, which had cheap and acceptable venetian blinds (I hate curtains in caravans) which came in reasonable sizes and could be made smaller or larger - yes, really - by Spouse.

That's the vital word - Spouse. He can do most things. I wouldn't have been happy whith what he did in the house but for occasional use it was fine.

By the way, shopping at Argos was one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever had ... :-(

Do you keep him in the shed normally then?

I agree. Dreadful place and dreadful company. I won't deal with them.

To email, substitute .nospam with .gl

He chooses to be in his workshop most of the time - except for meals and bed of course!

But they did have what we wanted ... and since we don't have much experience of where we can get things other than specialised equipment we went where we knew they had the dibs.
