Yep, same here. The rain blows horizontally along the walls and windows and finds every crack and hole it can.

Timber sash windows in something better than grown in 2 minutes pine will give you a more satisfying finish, if you were rebuilding old ones this is the more comprehensive version of door brush in routed strips:

I have visited several "eco" and passive houses fitted with this. Many have been shut down on account of running expenses. (And being ineffectual). So, total waste of space. Don't do it.
