What's wrong with the cat?

It's spent all night going out of the cat flap at the rear of the house and walking round the house and sitting at the front door to be let back in.via the door.

Alzheimers? He is, at a rough guess, about 18 years old. Also last night he tried to jump onto my knee and missed twice.

Dunno.

Eyesight was my first thought.

He was last seen walking up the street.

He only walks that way when going to the woods or to the 90 year old woman that also feeds him.

Were you humping the Mrs at the time, so your knee was a moving target?

It seems likely, I mean at that age he can legally buy booze as well as drive to get it.

Why would the cat do that when he has Adam to do it for him?

Sounds like a stroke. Very likely in an old cat of that age. Just one of old ages breakdowns.

Any limp when walking, e.g. any weakness on one side?

What is the average life of a cat then? Mine is 2 years old now. He does odd things like that sometimes

My sister had a cat that did that at 2 years old, only he ran a couple of hundred metres along a couple of roads rather than take a short cut to the front door.

If the front door was left open he'd run maybe half a dozen laps and then come and pester whoever he could for a head rub.

He did it, just as all cats do it, 'because they could'

Now he's about 15 or so and prefers a much quieter life but still goes for a stroll around his various staff in the neighbourhood for a regular treat.

ARW or the cat?

Yes, they do tend to emulate their owners. Take wodneys cat for instance, he has a nasty habbit of meowing bollocks.

A very wide range is normal. In the first year, a cat ages around

10 equivalent human years per year, but an elderly cat is aging only about 2.5 equivalent human years per year.

Mine lived a few weeks short of her 22nd birthday (kidneys failed, which is common in old cats), but anything from 7 - 24 years is not unexpected, and they can live to over 30 in rare cases.

You're going to have an earthquake or the cat's going to die. Or both.

Adam, limp? A slur on his reputation ;-)

He seemed OK when he came through the cat flat this morning to be fed when I got up for work

Been eating fallen apples? Might be pissed.

Seriously though, cats do have funny ways at times so unless it continues I'd not worry. If its a male the cat might be marking territory if there is a new cat about of course. As for missing the lap, well, could have sprained a leg and they don't always limp with that, just lose power.
