I live in King's Cross, and have driven to Dover often enough. On a Friday, the minimum would be 3 hrs. eg set of at 11am to be comfortable catching a 2:30 ferry. Do not attempt to drive out of London on a Friday after midday. It takes an hour to reach the M25 from central London on a good day, double that on a busy day. If you finish at 5. then you may as well wait until 7 before starting your journey. The arrival time at Dover will likely be much the same, but less stressful.

True. but lower Thames Street, to Blackwall Tunnel, or straight on through Canary Wharf to Dartford is fairly direct.

It might be direct, but it certainly won't be quick :-)

AA route planner reckons 25 miles & 50 mins.
