Water again

there's a program on CH4 now instructing how the housholder can save water.

FFS what about these large scale water features dotted up and down the country in shopping malls and the like, if thats not wasting water I don't know what is.

They pump the same water round and round and round and round, as you will find if you unobtrusively squirt some Fairy Liquid in and watch the froth spread. The only losses would be evaporation, which would contribute to the air-conditioning humidification anyway.

What's the water usage of these features as the water is recalculated? With some building such as shopping centres the 'feature' probably plays a large part of the air conditioning.

The message from "The3rd Earl Of Derby" contains these words:

What, fountains, that sort of thing? I don't suppose they actually use all that much water. It's not like they were 18th century fountains which ran on total loss systems.

I wonder what happens when the battery runs out in the calculator then? Or maybe its recirculated...

Couldn't resist it.

We had one in Chatham High Street. The local Chavs had great fun adding Fairly Liquid and clouds of foam used to blow across the precinct from time to time. It was also unwisely placed outside Argos and it became a sport to see how many Argos catalouges could be thrown in before it overflowed.

Council eventually took it away.

You will also find that external water features such as ponds and lakes on commercial sites are a building regulation requirement - they are used as a source of water for fire fightinging ...

hence the reason why they cannot keep fish in such features...

I see,so the sprinkler valves are just there for decoration.

Perhaps they were environmental guerrillas masquerading as chavs ...

See? They were successful!
