Washers for plastic P traps

Oct 24, 2007 4 Replies

Hi

In replacing a basin waste I have come up against the same problem as I did when cleaning out the washing machine drain trap. The washers need replacing before reassembling. Does anyone know where I can buy spare flat rubber washers approx 35mm id for waste traps?

I couldn't find any last time and managed to put the old ones back and tighten them as much as I could. I can't do that this time as they have almost disintegrated!

I have looked in B & Q and could only find O rings which I don't think will do the job.

Thank you

John

Proper independant plumbers merchant will have them.

Don't disagree, but suitable size O rings should work. At a pinch, you can twizzle PTFE tape up into string and wind it round a couple of times and bodge it that way. How often do you need to clear P traps anyway (unless you pour lots of melted fat down them).

Thanks to all for your replies. The local plumbers merchant seems to be a good place to start. If I draw a blank there I will try the other suggestions.
