Vaillant vs. Worcester

Hello

Im going to be having a new central heaating system installed. My friend recently had a Vaillant 828 Ecomax installed which he highly recommends.

One of the people I have called for a quote has advised that he has years of experience on both Vaillant and Worcester boilers and that he now specialises in Worcester (recommending the CDI model).

Can anyone offer any further advice on these types as I have read good reports on both. But preferably looking for the make which will be easier to maintain during servicing...

I appreciate your advice.

Many Thanks

Regards Mark

My plumber does the same. Says Worcester are the easiest to work on, easiest to fault find, and that Worcester after sales are good.

That's exactly what I was told and had a Worcester installed and very happy I am too with it.

A lot of ex British Gas engineers seem to favour Worcester Bosch due largely to British Gas boilers apparently being rebadged Worcester Bosch's.

Guess what? My installer was ex BG. It is a good boiler though.

For peace of mind do what I did and go to the Worcester Bosch web site. Click on find an installer and put your post code in and it will return their WB approved and trained local installer for your area. If he's like mine, he'll be a nice bloke that did a good job and charge a very fair price.

Avoid the Worcester-Bosch CDI condensing model like the plague. It is a 1st generation upward burner secondary exchanger model, that takes the well regarded CDI non-condensing model and destroys it with the addition of an ill conceived bodged additional exchanger. Worcester-Bosch do an alternative decent downward firing burner one piece exchanger condensing model, called the Greenstar, which rightly has a excellent reputation.

Do you mean the greenstar CDI ? The WB website claims the greenstar cdi is down firing ?

I've had quotes for both the greenstar HE & CDI - discount heating has the cdi more expensive than the HE - so I kind of assumed it to be the better boiler. Would I be better of with the greenstar HE rather than the greenstar CDI

It's the one without any "Greenstar" at all that is bad. I believe the Greenstar CDI is of Greenstar heritage rather than CDI, although why they reused the name is anyone's guess.

I spoke to worcester-bosch about 5 minutes ago and they told me that the Greenstar HE plus range is about to be discontinued in favour of the Greenstar CDI range.

Seems that the 40 CDI is a little cheaper than the 40 HE plus too. My local plumbase has one in stock at 1033.98 + VAT.
