TV image

I am sure you will have set the HDMI resolution settings of the TV and the HUMAX to the highest value usable ?

What is the input to the PVR?

By way of counterexample, perhaps: We have a pretty old setup; a Roku 3 provides streaming video via HDMI, and a Topfield PVR provides a Freeview signal via RGB Scart.

The Freeview/SCART image is somewhat 'softer', and I prefer it a lot. In part I take this to be because there is less compression/decompression on the data, and hence less jerky artefacts. I seem to be more sensitive to these than some. I watch very little sport on TV, but when I do, strongly dislike the streaming image; fast movement/fine crowd detail etc make for horrible viewing IMO.

BTW there are usually lots of TV settings to 'sharpen the image' etc. IMO it is best to turn all of these off; they all have downsides.

Does the TV not have individual picture setups for input via aerial or HDMI? My Panasonic TV can change brightness, colour, tint, contrast, sharpness, and several more for all the inputs separately, and retain the settings.

I should have said that the Humax is an HDR-FOX T2, so runs in HD as the default (or should do). The TV is a Panasonic TX-42MZ800B

I have set the screen display sharpness on the TV to a high level, but I can see no such equivalent command for the Humax, despite exploring all the various options it offers. Am I missing something? Could it be locked into SD resolution?

I can make the Humax and the TV show similar degrees of sharpness by reducing/degrading the sharpness of the TV display, but that isn't really solving the problem!

Try a different (better?) HDMI cable?

That may be getting the TV to do some processing on the raw data, rather than just displaying as received.

It could be What You See is What You Got for the Humax and HDMI to the TV.

Surely the TV will pop up a notification of the video resolution if it is changed from one to another?

"Sharpness" is just an illusion, no additional resolution or detail can be manufactured out of nothing, it just emphasises edges.

Ugh! I hate 'sharpening' in any form; it only adds outlines round everything so I've turned it to zero on the TV. My Humax HD-FOX T2 feeds the TV via HDMI and doesn't have a way add 'sharpness'. It receives HD channels e.g. BBC1 on 101, but I have to tune them manually on USB channel 30 because its auto scan doesn't look for HD DVB S-2 format. I can record on it by plugging a disk drive through a USB adaptor.
