I have to organise a little ceremony on Mam Tor. Does anyone know roughly how long it would take a fit middle-aged person to climb from the car park to the summit?

Bit of a long shot asking here, I'd have thought. Might get a better answer by asking a local rambling or hiking group. It depends a lot on the type of ground and the weather as well.

According to Google Maps it's 0.6 miles (approx. 1 km), as you'd have to park at the top of The Winnats/old main road, walk up to Mam Nick (the top of the road over to Edale) then turn right oop t' ill. Haven't been up there since the '70s - and that was The Edale Round in autumn. I'm a bit over 70 and, due to lack of steep hills around here, would expect to take about 10 minutes for that distance - perhaps a bit more.
I asked the gf's lad who did this a few months ago with the Scouts how long it took them.
His answer "How am I supposed to know?"

Explain to him that Google Maps will tell him if he sets it to route by walking?

They are not allowed phones on such trips.
Hence the midnight hike for the Cubs and Beavers that I helped out on was a disaster. Lost 2 parents, 3 cubs and 1 beaver.
3 miles an hour + an hour for every 300 feet.
At my age in my condition
Not everyone makes a note of when they started and when they finished - and then remembers those times in case someone asks them later on.
No map, compass or stars to navigate by?

Mr. Naismith getting on a bit? We used to reckon Naismith but, on walking terrain in the Lakes etc., forget the ascent. Held good to about 15 miles then started to unravel. Haven't been on the hills since '09, so would expect to be just about to Naismith now - but lack of practice at going downhill would probably slow me down a lot, especially after a few steep descents.
Oh yeah? What about the "Be Prepared" which should be at the forefront of any good scout's mind?
Probably had the phone in his hand and was looking at it all the way to the top and never noticed?
That sounds like a resounding success to me.

Isn't that why they use a condom ------- to keep the matches dry.
