Interesting...The alliance between France and the US dates back to 1778, two years after the US declaration of independence.

As part of the Franco-American alliance, France provided the US with critically needed military aid and loans during its revolutionary war against the UK.

France, the US?s oldest ally, had never before recalled its ambassador.

At the battle of Yorktown, the final battle in the US War of independence, there were as many French troops as there were American militia!

The French at the moment seem to have few friends. They are complaining about us sending back the people coming over the channel are moaning because they can no longer steal the fish from around the channel islands unless they have a permit that goes back to 2017 and are at loggerheads with the EU over many things, so why not pick a fight with the US? I also see that they are upsetting their own population by a draconian system of vaccination passports in order to eat out.

What a shambles. Brian

Well that says less about the USA than it does about France - in social turmoil, with a weak leader and overshadowed by a crumbling and ineffective Union.

Not that the USA is a great deal better, with a resurrected zombie only under partial remote control...

It's simply politically motivated. The run-up to the French presidential election in April next year is about to start, and Macron wants to get off to a good start by showing what a strong leader he is on the world stage by criticising the US and making a big fuss.

Similarly, the US and UK trumpet blowing is a distraction from the fact that there will be no general trade deal while the Good Friday Agreement is threatened.

I find it enormously cute that you actually believe that.
