I have a vacuum to fix, the motor seems jammed, there is a nut holding the impeller in place, and the impeller stops me removing the motor. The drive belt goes straight on the output shaft, so I do not want to scratch it with vice grips. Any tricks I should know to lock the shaft in place? It is an Oreck XL if that makes a difference. Ta

Confused. If the motor is jammed, why do you need something to stop it turning?

If you are lucky its muck, but most motors do seem to mangle the comutator if overheated, so it might need a new one. Brian
We used to dress the commutator with a small lathe.
Can also give it 24v & use a file
