I bought some thick clear vinyl to protect our nice new carpet from my workstation chair.
The trouble is that it slides about.
So I bought some 3M tape from Screwfix that I thoght was transparent. It turned out to be double sided and BLUE!
Anyway I tried it leaving the yellow protective layer on.
It didn't work.
Any suggestions other than nailing it down. :(

It would do. Buy a proper carpet protector, which will have little spikes built into the underside that lock into the pile of the carpet.
I've never found anything if it has castors, it eventually makes holes in the flexible material. I don't think anyone makes office chars with skids on them. Brian
I bought the mat for my office chair about 15 years ago. It hasn't yellowed, or developed holes. I am not light, and I am hard on chairs and carpets.
You can swop skids for castors easily. A good office furniture upplier should b able to help
Proper carpet protectors intended for office chairs have spikes underneath and cost about £25. Mine came from Costco and has lasted years. It's about 1.5M x 1.5M

You can buy castor cups. Plastic cups that the castors sit in, to spread the weight over a larger area.
Buy a mat. If it wears out you can replace it. Your office chair will just slide on vinyl.
It depends on the quality of carpet and how thick the pile. A thick pile and the little spikes still walk. I have tried various things over the years to stop small rugs walking on top of carpets and so far have found nothing that has been truly satisfactory to stop the rug moving.
Big nails?
Surely you must be able to pin it right thru the underlying carpet to what is under the underlying carpet ?
