Storage of propane gas bottles

I have a tandem garage - i.e. it can take two cars end to end. However I only keep one car in the garage and the far end is used for a work area, storage etc.

Can I safely store a propane gas bottle at the far end or would this be a problem if there was a leak and the car was switched on.

It's either that or leave them sitting outside. It's the new BP Gas light bottles by the way, made of plastic.

Store them securely outside. I wouldn't store large LPG cylinders indoors.

The main point about storage of LPG is ventilation. LPG is heavier than air so flows like water downhill. Garages are not usually sealed, and have lots of ventilation. I have several LPG small bottles in my garage and any escaped gas can disperse easily.

LPG lockers in caravans and motorhomes designed to safely hold two small LPG bottles, They have holes in the bottom to allow any gasses to escape.

If the garage catches fire, run like hell, they act as small bombs. Warn the fire brigade and they will set a hose to keep them cool.

I once had a dented Camping gas bottle, and took it to the local fire station. The fireman there took two steps backward, wanted nothing to do with it, and said take it to the distributor. So I put it in the middle of a large field far from *everything* and let the LPG escape. The dealer then took it off my hands.
