In our recently converted barn (which we rent), a bathroom extractor fan bearing the name Steeple has been installed above the cooker.

Yes, I can see why.
As a follow up, I've been in touch with Denmans, who make Steeple products, and they have confirmed that their bathroom extractor fans are not suitable for use as cooker extractor fans.
However, it would appear not to contravene any regs.
Now I wonder where you got the idea to call them ? ;-)
