Not long ago I was using a big electric hedge trimmer and I went right though the middle of a nest of baby birds. There were bits of bird all over the ground, several babies with severe wounds still alive, and a lot of blood. In all seriousness I was upset for a week, and I still keep away from that part of the field.

BUT farmers aren't allowed to trim hedges when birds are nesting...and I don't trim at this time of year either.

If the grass gets too long, I always seem to massacre a slow worm (got dozens here). I send the kids around first beating the ground with a big stick.
