HI Folks Recently had a solar photovoltaic system installed - 14 panels on the roof, and inverter which charges about 5kw of batteries, and a clever little box (called, cutely, 'eddi') which diverts excess power to heat the dhw tank, and then out to the grid.
The inverter and the eddi operate fairly independently - and have their own 'Current Transformers' clamped around various cables carrying a/c.
Both items have apps / websites, where you can geek to your heart's content and watch the activity of the system
Now to the odd thing. The house baseload never drops below 150 - 200w (various pc's, routers and other kit running 24/7)
The displays from the eddi reflect this - but the displays from the inverter itself tend to show a number of silly-low 'power consumption' points throughout each day where the recorded consumption is in low double-figures - 30w, 50w - that kind of thing.
Just as a sanity-check, I left two 80w halogen lamps running from 9am to
6pm (so there was an indisputible 160w load on all of the time) - but these 'low points' were still recorded.
The system installers poo-poo'd this
saying "We have told you that your looking at momentary snapshots in time and power flows when captured like this will display and appear like anomalies.
If we felt you were at some loss we would be there giving it attention but I don’t feel this is the case.
These are not snags I say, this is you learning electrical science 101 and as much as I enjoyed teaching electrical science in college I simply don’t have time to go from A to Z with each customer you understand. "
