Simple maths challenge for Electricians

I can see why you said that, being the apparent power at the load. Not all fonts can differentiate between Vl and VI.

Neither do I. The idea that caps source power and inductors absorb it seems daft to me as it's really much more a reciprocal thing, but I've seen it elsewhere in supposedly authoritative literature, so it's not just him.

It's a "joke". I know they don't go down to well on usenet. Did you not "get" the Rome reference in someone else's post? Simple mathematical question, what is V1? Roman numerals V1 - 6 Now do you get it?

The only explanation for his interpretation is that loads are generally laggy, and generators are over excited to compensate. Hence the concept of sourcing reactive power.

Still wrong though! The idea of absorbing or souring reactive power is an oxymoron.

Nope.

VI was the Roman equivalent of the Arabic 6. V1 was a flying bomb in WW2. Vl is something else entirely.

The IV of them?

Yup. A complete contradiction-in-terms. Rather like naming Andy Murray as Sports Personality of the Year.

And depending on the font selected in the readers newsreader (plus screen res, eyesight etc), can all easily be confused - either unintentionally or deliberately for comic effect.
