Serious cleaning

I need some serious cleaning power! I've got a 100% polyester curtain that gets wet regularly, a shower curtain, and its started going brown and orange and green. Yep, nice.

Now the cotton I boiled in dishwasher detergent, and it came out great. But I darent boil the poly, the label says max wash temp 40C, and at 40 its just not getting clean, the brown marks remain 100%, the other two reduce but dont go entirely.

So far I've tried: washing powder washing up liquid dishwasher detergent, sodium disilicate - all at 40C dilute peroxide

What else can I do? I'm going to get bleach but I could seriously do with getting this clean before I next get shopping! Any ideas??

I tried that waterproofing spray before btw, totally useless. Regards, NT

Chlorine bleach, dilute as per maker's instructions, soak for an hour and wash as normal.

This was recommended in a cleaning column in Saturday's Telegraph. I tried it on a shower curatin that was getting brown and crusty around the bottom. It works.

This may work or you may need to replace it, but to keep a clean shower curtain in good nick you have to:

Use shower gel not soap.
Let it dry spread out before tying it back.
Wash it at least once a week using your normal washing stuff.

Our yellow one has been going nearly two years and shows no staining.

youre sure that wont eat it? If so I'll do it. Then you can all laugh at my tale of woe :)

Thanks for all the input! Btw it must be getting on for 20 years old now, but looks perfect other than the very recent staining.

I searched: polyester is resistant to hydrochloic acid, but is degraded by chorine bleach. Will try the acid tomorrow.
