Sealing an oil tank connector

Oct 21, 2004 2 Replies

I need to reuse a plastic oil tank---it will contain red diesel. How should I seal the joint formed by the connector (metal 1 inch) being screwed into the plastic tank? When I took the connector off, to move the tank, it appeared to have PTFE tape on. Would this be ordinary plumbers PTFE tape? Would it, on its own, make a good seal?

This is what I've used, and it works fine.

Probably.

I was advised by my local CH installer to use Hylomar on the threads of the connector. It hasn't worked, or at least I don't think it has worked so when the oil runs out I'm going to use PTFE.
