Sanded floor has different colour boards

Hi I have a bedroom with stained dark brown floor boards I decided to sand them down and re varnish to bring the floor in line with the natural colour of the rest of the flat After sanding the whole room back it appears half the room s floorboards are a different colour Can I do anything to rectify this, I don't want to stain the floors to the dark brown again as it woul dmake my whole job for nothing Regards KC

Sounds like the reason it was stained may well have been to disguise the fact that the two lots of boards didn't match.

You *may* be able to find a stain which you can apply to the lighter wood to make it a similar colour to the darker wood - but I wouldn't hold out *that* much hope. For example, you can get stains which make pine pretend to be mahogany - but the results can be a bit hit or miss.

Cheers Roger

I suspected as much - at least I have managed to fill the gaps!!
