I was responding to the OP who received a scam email asking for a phone number

One of them Ring doorbells, capturing the actual posting of the note could be illuminating ...

Maybe someone could come up with a plugin that at least flags up when the link text looks f*ck all like the underlying URL. Surely that's what RegEx was invented for ?

Like a default setting in email clients that says "are you sure" when you inadvertently try to send to 10,000 recipients.

Possibly all they know is that it's somebody's number.

It might simply say: Click here to unsubscribe

No URL showing at all there. I just made mine display the underlying URL in a popup when the mouse is hovered over the link; I made it user-settable too in case someone didn't actually want that. Implemented by inserting a bit of CSS into the mail's HTML and modifying the link slightly.

I don't need one, we receive so few nuisance calls, one a week, if that.

How do you know whether the "actual URL" is correct? When PayPal send you an email, the "actual URL" of the links it provides begin

You?re lucky (compared to us). Pre-COVID, several calls every day, often when we?re sitting down for dinner. Fewer at the moment but they?re creeping back up.

We were the same till I adopted the abusive response philosophy. These are ordinary employees in a call centre. They are not going to like being sworn at so won't call again. Tough on them I know but....

These idiots sell lists of potential victims between themselves.

Only takes someone to wrongly / purposely mark an idiotic conversation as "fruitful" and then that's it - you have your time wasted by many following calls.

Just say nothing, hang up!
