That's the price for a "genuine" spare is it? Identify the size (not too difficult) and a generic one might be half the price.

I wanted a belt for my shredder earlier in the year, an Aldi badged Einhell unit. The belt cost as much as the entire shredder.

I dumped the shredder as the blades again cost nearly as much as the entire unit.

The thing was on offer at around £25-00 when I bought it.

I was hoping to find a spare for the rotavator and fit it in one hit. I have a nasty tendency to strip things down and leave them forever.

Indeed. SKF(UK) employees used to get 60% discount on deep groove bearings!

Sometimes all a belt needs is a good clean of belt & pulleys. More often not, but easy to try.

V belts wear resulting in them trying to grip on the base of the V rather than the sides where they should. This results in slippage no matter how much they are tightened.

It gives me something to look for. It is obvious I suppose, now that you have pointed it out, but I would not have looked for a sign of it bottoming as an indicator.
