For a forum touting the skill of manual focus, that photograph looks pretty flat and relies too much on the 3D cue lines of the subject.

Yep, a record of a holiday, that's all.
Actually, I prefer sharp all the way. If you look around the forum you'll see plenty of examples of the way you like it. Bear in mind that all levels of skill are there.
