I needed to replace some internal door locks, I also had to buy the replacement before I got a chance to look at the old one. Unfortunately the old lock appears to have the shaft 55mm (to centre), where all the replacement locks have the shaft 43mm to centre. This can be seen in the link below
If at all possible get locks to match the old ones, apart from having to make new holes and make good the old ones, you'll find it increasingly annoying bashing your knuckles against the door frame due to the handle being closer to the door frame.

Try looking for a '3" mortice lock' (case size [in metric, around 75mm]) then you will something similar to the one you want that will fit (possibly with some minor cutting or filling around the front plate.

Not uncommon. You can buy handle sets wider than average which might cover up the old holes.
Standard back plate is around 40mm, but you can get them 50mm or even 60mm
