Repairing porcelain heating element support

Further to my query about gas tumble driers...!!

Plan B is to repair the existing electric one which has a coiuple of problems, one of which is the fact that two of the porcelain(?) bits which support the coiled-wire heating element are broken (the element itself works OK, for now).

Is there an effective way of sticking these back together? Just trying to wring a bit more life out of the beast; not worth paying for a new element!

Thanks David

wrapping wire round the ceramic bits, and twisting it to tighten it may be able to hold it all, but realise that element supports must insulate, and wire conducts, so you may need to modify the mounting to make it safe. Make sure its all secure, dont want the live element drooping onto the metal case.

You could always try fire cement, but IME its utter rubbish mechanically.

Last option is to use a bit of heating element wire to fashion a short support for the element, the way its done inside light bulbs. Again, watch what you fix the other end to, as the support will be live, and must itself be well insulated from the case, and unable to bend over and allow any of the element to touch case.

If you do such mods, a) ensure your machine is earthed b) PAT test it c) only do if competent

Arse covered.
