Reducing static.

The external air the last week or so has been particularly dry. Usually when it is cold the dew point is near ambient. It has been well below ambient the last week or so, and the humidity thus low (I've seen it near 50% outside which is vey unusual for the winter).

This can reduce the internal humidity (if there are draughts) to very low levels increasing electrical resistance of everyday items due to decreased moisture content. This will increase the generation of static electrical charge.

I've had to lick my fingers a few times recently to get the touch screen to work on my mobile phone. Down to dry air.

A spray of water is the main solution. Providing earth wires is a secondary option, less practical but not impossible. Also laundry products that rema in on the clothing etc reduce static - use them on anything else that gener ates static too, but not animals.
