Lazy man that I am thought I would find the answer by sitting down and googling, decided it was Brazilian electrical std and Yellow was indeed therefore live. rewired plug, connected up, nothing. Changed fuse in plug, nothing. Went out to shed with torch and found multimeter in the bottom of a damp old tool bag, it didn't work. Changed battery in multi-meter, still doesn't work. Decided to have a drink and watch telly.
