Razor Blades - follow up

There was a recent thread recently Razor blades and I posted the Wilko do some which are compatible with Gillette.

We happened to visit Wilko today, they seem only do the triple version now although they still fit the Contour / Sensor handle which used to use twin blades. £3.20 for 5.

I’ve used them before, they are sharp and seem to last. In particular the lub strip seems to last longer than the Gillette one did.

As the lube strip is only a gimmick to make you throw away an otherwise perfectly good blade it’s irrelevant.

The only Wilko Razor I found in a Wilko shop was a 3 blade one. The blade itself fits on a Gillette handle. It is a bit bulkier than the Gillette Mach 3.

I also now have a Gillette Fusion 5 which I bought on ebay. It was made in Poland. I will try it soon.

Circa 2005 The Guardian published an article about a visit to Gilette's UK R&D site. It described how in a room equipped with two-way mirrors volunteers were filmed shaving by high speed cameras in order for the company to see what happened at the razor/face interface, and which presumably informed the company's decisions about increasing the number of blades needed for a good shave.

My presumption would be that the good folk in Marketing thought that increasing the number of blades would drive sales.

Will uk.d-i-y be discussing the twelve-blade razor in a few years time?

They now seem to be marketing specialised razors for removing hair from different parts of the body. Perhaps we will be discussing the model for removing hairs from the palms of your hands :)

I buy Astra blades .... a box of a00 makes them very cheap per blade. Astra wins many of the blade tests

I’ll be dead long before I could use up 100 Gillette blades.
