Denis, this is no way to have a discussion on here.

You recently tried to tell me a stealth aircraft was unstable, by describing a US F 117, I think. I said at the time, I have no knowledge of this aircraft. However, I have had many years of experience of stealthy aircraft.

Looking back, I think you were confusing aerodynamics with stability.

It started off with painting the standard aircraft with radar absorbent paint.

When the Tornado first flew as a development project, it was noted that the large square intakes showed up in the skies as black holes. The aircraft itself, could not be seen. Illuminating the intakes was tried, by putting light inside them. (stealth.) The solution was to fly them lower at 50 feet.

My work moved on to making an aircraft unstable, to prove the G.B. principle of how to fly one with computers and a get you home system.

Similar to the way your engine management system works on your car. It gets you home.

For anyone interested, this Jaguar is now in the aircraft museum at RAF Cosford. Look for the red white and blue Jaguar with the extended wing cuffs.

Why not avoid all this argument by using a full thickness locknut i.e. two nuts the same thickness?

It does seem a little tiresome reading this 'theoretical' bullshit for such a trivial matter...

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember Frank Erskine saying something like:

You wouldn't think it so trivial if your nuts got stripped.

I have seen light towers where they have used the thin nut on top. This means the thin nut is taking all the wind load and not the thick nut as its probably designed to do. I wasn't worried though as I decided the bolts were oversized anyway, even the thin nut was about 35 mm thick on a ~25 mm bolt.

You sure your thick nuts weren't just spacers? For M24 normal thickness steel nuts are 19 mm thick and thin nuts 10 mm.
