This raises two questions:
- First and foremost, why wasn't a quarantine on all people entering the UK from outside the first thing to be introduced as soon as Covid-19 became a known hazard? Even if it was a kneejerk reaction that was later modified as more scientific knowledge was known about how effective it would be in restricting the spread of the disease.
- Secondly, why does this belated quarantine only apply to people arriving by air, and not those arriving by boat or by rail (via the Channel Tunnel)? Is it simply a case that the majority of people coming to the UK do so by air?
