Pump for transferring diesel from cans to tractor/mower etc.

I've had another idea. Get a rubber bung to fit the can, make two holes in it to seal in two lengths of PVC tubing. One length goes to the bottom of the can and up into the filling spout. The other length goes into the air at the top of the can. With the can on the ground, use an air pump on this tube to force the oil up the other tube into the filling spout. Alternatively with the can on the bonnet, a short blow into the short tube from your lungs should start syphonic action.

That wouldn't work with my metal jerry cans. They have a small pipe inside the spout which lets air into the jerry can when you are tipping the jerry can into the tractor spout.

That would work, but surely a tractor or diesel powered motor has its own battery(ies) anyway?

At 78, what I use is a short step ladder and a funnel.

Much more convenient to be able to use an electric pump which works with the jerry can on the ground. You can even have the jerry can on a sack trolley if you end up too feeble to carry a full one around.

Fuelling a tractor is not something you want to spend time doing. If I get too feeble I'll open the barn door so the pumped nozzle from the fuel tank will reach.

If he had that, he wouldn't be filling the tractor from a jerry can.

Exactly! :-)

I have this issue in two places.

At home:- I buy diesel in 20l jerry cans and need to put that diesel into my little Kubota tractor and into my Stiga mower.

On my boat:- I buy diesel in a mix of metal and plastic jerry cans, they tend to be stored down in the depths of my boat and I want to transfer fuel from them into the boat tanks.
