Sounds idyllic for a couple like me and Spouse.
Mary
Place will be knee deep in Poles now its been in the media! Wouldn't catch me working for £22K either.
Job too big for you Dave or the though of not getting that 50% up-front? :-0
Tanner-'op
If I didn't have a family I'd be looking at it but no doubt they want people with bits of paper which I don't have.
This bit gets me "Hours can be long, especially if a ship comes in, when you could be spending 12 hours unloading cargo." A >12 hour working day is not unusual for me, 10 very common, if I do a mere eight I feels really odd as it's lunch time but I'm going home...
Not that I am skilled for this role, but if they did have jobs that I could do the 18 month commitment would put me off
tim
Getting on a bit then?
Job not paying enough is the problem. £22K is having a Giraffe.
But your accomodation and food is provided and there is no pub down the =
road to wee it up against the wall in...
Sorry, I don't see the connection!
It's the fact that there sod all to do with whatever spare time that you get, whilst you are there, that makes the 18 months so difficult.
tim
Ah, but he can smoke to his hearts content - and the upshot would be is that we won't hear from him for 18 months!
*GO* *FOR* *IT* *DAVE* AKA the Medway Prat (oops HandyBurk) damn (handyman)LOL
Tanner-'op
Who, after reading his comments in the home birth thread, is definitely in an anti Medway Prat (handyman( mood)
My husband has just lost his job and applied for this but was turned down because he was too old . They want a youngster but wont say it! So unless you are twenty odd, its none starter. Also please note, whilst in London Plumbers might earn a fortune, down here, 22K is good pay for a plumber. Average wage is between 14 - 17K. and there are no jobs for plumbers. No we cant afford to move either! he could go and take a job in the Antarctic though.
Where is 'down here'?
Bird Island. What a name. I would work there for free it the birds were the ones I liked.
Adam
And no neighbours to worry about!
South West.
And if they weren't you could open a Chicken Cottage franchise with very low ingredient costs

I guess thats the price you pay for living in such a lovely place. Shame really.
Kent can be a nightmare sometimes with the traffic, but being so near London wage rates are quite high.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold. I remember "endymion" saying something like:
Not surprising - circulatory problems, unnoticed in older folks in this climate, would begin to show up badly down there. The medical would screen a helluva lot out, but why even bother wasting their time.
