Two foot long, about 1" strip next to pvc door. Tap it and it's got that hollow sound.
Any easy fixes?
Easy - NO!
Straightforward yes, chip out loose material if that includes the plaster undercoat take back to brick. PVA the brick. Fill with bonding plaster or if you can plaster OK then use one coat plaster smoothing to a finish alternately apply finish plaster to bonding coat. If you are not confident with finish plaster use my favourite filler namely drywall filler. You should be able to smooth it out well but if you do not it will sand down a dream.

The hollow sound may be a bit of plasterboard to fill the void eft when an old door was removed. The crack because no taping before skimming.
Yes when we had the back door replaced the whole of that corner fell to bits and needed to be redone from the brick. I'm useless at it so got a many in! Brian
Drill hole(s) and inject water first and then fixing foam. It needs the water to make it go off. Then just fill the crack.
Fill it with filler or plaster. I'm assuming it's 1" wide because plaster fell out, not because the wall needs rebuilding. Hollow sounding bits can be done at the same time, but not if well held in place - that happens sometimes.

No the crack is not 1" wide, the dimensions I gave are of the cracked section. The crack is a fine crack.
then wipe it with a finger with a little filler on. It's all in the wiki.

OK, waht has happened is they were lazy plasterboarding it and didnt tape up a sliver of plasterboard. Is this a stud wall or block?
To do a pukka job you probably want to remove it, fit it properly and redecorate.
