Hmm.. I went to Bournemouth! M25 J12 was fine! Various signs along the way advised no fuel/no diesel/no petrol at some of the outlets. Filling up before the trip I decided the nearest garage to the Buncefield oil depot was the place to go:-) Even then they had no petrol and a modest queue. Coming back, the M25 paused for an hour while they cleared a broken down lorry..
The main issues seem to be in the SE of the UK. I did hear a phone in on a local station the other day who said that petrol delivery drivers pay is now rubbish and since the shortage in drivers caused by EU regulations, many of the tanker drivers have moved into the now vacant better paid jobs opened up, leaving the tanker drivers depleted. So does anyone know why a tanker driver should get less than maybe a container driver or other vehicles? It seems daft to me, and maybe its just an issue in the SE since the cost of living is higher? Perhaps long distance driving - with overnight stays is more fun.
Well, I doubt they do many overnight trips.
fuel Tanker drivers used to actually earn more than other HGV drivers cos of the dangerous goods traiing & licencing and hgigher H&S certification on top of a HGV licence....
So its certainly probable that Tanker drivers are following the money to jobs that are offering a £5000 golden hello plus a salary of 90k a year....
Many factors, including IR35 which HMRC are now clamping down on, plus an ageing HGV driver workforce.
You know what I mean Mark Carver! And you know my days are demarcated differently to those of a sensible person!
