I know of someone who was fully in favour of a residents parking permit scheme until after it was implemented and it didn't guarantee that he had the right to reserve the space outside the front of his property and it didn't guarantee that he could get permits for both cars.
Well does size matter , but it depends on the location surely.

As long as the road where you live is not closed to traffic, you may drive along it (other legal niceties being observed). But you may or may not be allowed to park on it; that, as they say, depends.
But you *may* drive on a public road next to your house. No-one said you may not (unless the road is closed to traffic).

The only way to guarantee a parking space is to won or rent one.

The place where one of my sons lives is a road narrow enough that they only allow parking down one side, and it's one way.
The houses aren't much wider than the length of a car.
Which means there's only an average of one space for every other house.
Knocking down all the Victorian working people's terraces just because there isn't enough parking for a car each would seem to be excessive. It's not just new builds.

Such places were built with no concept of a household owning a car-size vehicle.
But I agree. The alternative - assuming that some official intervention with respect to the inevitable neighbour disputes is necessary - is rigid control of who may keep a motor vehicle.

There is something awry with your reasoning. Being in the top ten selling cars doesn't mean that the average driver is daft enough to pay half a grand for VED.

Yes there are some who seem to like paying over the odds for energy as well.
I've just been watching C5 "Live at the NEC camping and caravanning show".
Blimey, there were some enormous twin axle caravans on show. Even a lot of A roads aren't suitable for those, never mind Devon lanes.
