OT? why rod isn't an austrailian even though he claims to be..

He claims to have built his house but the reality is that just about anything DIY electrical is illegal in aussi land.

Even changing the plug on an appliance is illegal.

Many people do their own electrical here it may be illegal but you can buy electrical fittings in supermarkets and hardware shops even electrical wholesalers will sell to anyone who walks in. If you really wanted to wire your own house and were capable all you would need is a mate who is licensed who could put it under his own ticket. It is only new installations that are a problem, almost no one doing their own additions or alterations gets caught.(except drug growers :) )

If you get caught the fines are pretty bad and you don't have any insurance cover and you could lose the tin shack.

According to what is said even ARW couldn't legally wire a plug in Australia and could get a $600,000 fine for doing so.

I suspect our rules probably have the right balance - or at least my interpretation of them does :-)
