OT: What is the point in a tracker you take out of your car?

Just saw on "The Grand Tour" them mentioning cars where they take the tracker into the house along with the keys. Surely it should stay in the car?

Does not seem very logical, does it? Maybe there is another one in the car and only when both are in the car,can it be started? Brian

I thought of that, but surely that's the job of the RF chip in the key?
