Obviously never owned an iPhone then. ;-) (I don?t count ?jail-breaking? as unlocking as the phone will re-lock if you ever allow an OS update).

Yes I'm sure I used this site with an 8210 I had a few years ago. I was just too lazy to look for the specific page this time..!

Oh they've lost charge, when they were new they lasted 2 or 3 weeks on standby..! But I can promise you they still have what it takes..! They're lithium-ion btw not NiMH.

Neither, can't stand the smell of that stuff..! It's usually just the two, one of them was my old work phone before I retired, I managed to hold on to the number as it was a nice memorable one. I still get a few old colleagues call me from time to time. The other is an old Orange legacy SIM that they've just buggered by forcing it onto EE, so I'm just running down the credit then I'll junk the SIM. Not the phone, though..!

If you use an automated code generator you will likely get seven codes with numbers 1-7 before the # at the end. Normally with Nokia the code with 5 at the end is all that is required, but I understand that there may be issues with an Orange SIM (not that I have ever encountered it) which means you need to use code 7.

The fact that other decoders have failed might be because you are using a modern version of Windoze. You could download the MS Virtual PC (free) and then install maybe W98SE (also a free download from MS) into it which should work well.

That explains it!

Well, yes. I have countless spaffing invitations to "register" which I couldn't because their "web site" was so shit. Part of the offer when I bought mine was a free case if you registered before a certain date. Needless to say, I never saw it.

But it's a nice phone. Which - unless my basic research is badly skewed - was a bargain at £130 even now - 4 years on. The only feature it lacks - and it's not a biggie - is NFC.

Most certainly not! and never will.

I thought that we were talking Nokias, Alcatels, etc. Never had a problem with those.

Ah, you lucky bugger, you got a Swift, which really is a good device despite the brand and the 720p resolution. I went for the Storm, which was probably missing "shit" as a prefix. Dying LEDs, a magnetometer too close to a power rail, a charge port that absolutely refuses to fast charge under any circumstances, including using the supplied cable, the inability to power on after complete battery exhaustion, the list goes on.

Its saving grace is compatibility with LineageOS and the fact it still works, albeit with the caveats above. I really rue the decision to throw in with a Shenzhen generic masquerading as a British brand. A Moto would have been a far better choice.

That said, I do have one thing to thank Wileyfox for: Thanks to this experience, I have resisted the temptation to buy a Nokia solely on the past reputation of the brand. This is not your dad's Nokia.

I fitted a magnetic coupler to my port so it doesn't get any mechanical stress. It's the single cheapest "upgrade" we should all apply to our phones to ensure they last the 5-6 years they will probably be OK for.

Excellent tip, but this was from BNIB.The Storm has an excellent screen, good form factor, SD-XC support and the advantage that it was designed to run Cyanogen, albeit the commercial fork. It was let down by the little things and Wileyfox's inability to grasp what the words "customer" and "support" mean.

If they'd just 'fessed up that there wasn't enough copper around the softkey backlight LEDs to dissipate the heat and the magnetometer was too near a power rail that probably generates a significant portion of the flux around one of the LHA's superconducting magnets¹, that would have been the end of the matter. Instead, they bullshitted about "future firmware upgrades" to address these issues.

Worse, the poor buggers who bought extended warranties and screen insurance got right royally screwed but I'll leave you to check out the threads on XDA for those tales of woe.
