In my humble opinion of course....

The reason rents are high, is because people are expecting to get on the housing ladder a few rungs up. If a For Sale sign goes up around these parts, you can almost guarantee that the sign after Sold will be To Let. Because there are only prospective landlords willing to buy up cheap property and do any work on them.

I was talking to my son about it, he doesn't want to do any work on a tired old house, and his aspiration at 22 is 'anything with a drive', which he can't afford so for the foreseeable future he'll continue to live with his grandparents for f*ck all.

There are plenty of empty properties available at any given time albeit in poor condition, but gone are the days when folk buy a house and get on a steep learning curve and get their hands dirty.
