OT - tablet clamp for van/Motor Home

Jun 22, 2022 Last reply: 4 years ago 6 Replies

I've tried using the apparently useful pop up clamp on the 2016 Fiat Ducato dash board but this points the tablet down the centre of the MH and has a very poor viewing angle. At the moment I use an Android phone for navigation, with one of the many varieties of phone clamp to make it easily visible. However I would like to mount my 10" Android tablet to give a much larger display. I have a seriously strong suction mount with a tripod head (used for mounting a video camera in a car a few years back) but I need a tablet holder strong enough to cope with bumps during travel, and with a tripod mount built in. Most seem to be designed for home use on a static tripod and reviewed as "not very sturdy". Wondering if anyone has solved this issue, and what clamp was used.

Posting here because: (a) You know everything (b) There might be some Fiat Ducato white van drivers lurking

Cheers

brian reay has a dormobile like that I think.....

For seriously strong mounts, look at Ram Mount.

They have an tripod-ball adapter, and also any number of mounts, suction and otherwise.

Expensive, though.

I met a similar problem on Senior Managements Aygo when using the Garmin sat nav. We have always used one of those rubber pads with a polished centre for a suction pad but the Aygo doesn’t have a suitable flat surface. I made a new mount which fits in a coin tray. You may be able to adapt the idea.

Get a suction mount and remove the suction bit, keeping the round base. Get a bit of Perspex cut to fit on the top of the Ducato note pad mount and fit under the clip. Bolt the base to it.

You may need some double sided tape but the Ducato clip should hold the Perspex.

On our MH (Ducato based), I use a rubber pad with a suction mount under the clip. It holds our Garmin Camper Satnav.

This might be overkill.

Since damaging both hands I use one, clamped to the bedhead, to hold a Kindle. I has an excellent grip and hold set position well

I suspect that used in a vehicle, there would be huge potential to have the tablet slap you around the head in case of emergency braking/swerving?

No It can be locked down uit firmly.

Any way at what height is your head behind the steering wheel ?
