My impressions is that if its not first class or urgent it waits until there is mail for you that is.
E.g I get a block of unspecified addressee leaflets and mail to 'the occupier' on the same day as stuff marked "NHS. Private" ends up in the letter box.
Twice a week here - or just occasionally three times a week.
And today a neighbour from the same number in the next street just brought our post around which had been mis-delivered to them. These streets have different postcodes (two characters different in our case) which should have made such mistakes much harder to make.
The NHS has resorted to using a special barcode on their outgoing letters because people are getting hospital appointment letters after the date of the clinic.
We have a xx road, xx avenue, xx place and xx mews. Historically mis-delivery was common place especially at Christmas when a lot of temporary staff were employed by RM. Unfortunately now RM seem to be operating with rotating staff in my area where seldom does the same person re-appear to deliver the mail. From accounts by ex-RM posties the local office has serious problems with staff retention and a lot of older experienced people are being lost due to retirement.
