I still have the Pye portable shown centrally in lot 7428! In the early sixties I drilled a hole in the chrome to the right of the (missing) right-hand knob so I could put a 3.5mm jack socket in. That way I could listen via headphones without disturbing anyone else. Last time I checked (about 10 years ago) the radio still worked.

The price of s/h vinyl (and for that matter, new vinyl) has become ridiculous.

I have, in my collection, at least one LP, bought new in 1970 and only ever played a half-dozen times, for which some sellers are asking €3,000.

When Sgt Pepper came out, I knew it was going to be important (like those folk without computers who bought Windows 95, perhaps?) and I bought two copies. One to play and the other which I sealed, untouched, into a polythene sleeve to give to some unyet imagined grandchildren. (or should that be yet unimagined?)

Indeed, but a pity some of their vintage radio receivers can only pick up Radio 5 now what the demise ofd 198 Longwave!..

How about Hilversum, R. Paris, Luxembourg, Kalundborg, Oslo, Leningrad...?

They all used to be on Long Wave - don't tell me they aren't around anymore?

(I was going to include Strasbourg, but when I checked, that was on Medium Wave.)

After 198 stopped broadcasting R4, but while it was still powered on with the end of life announcement, I dug out my LW receiver (to direction find which transmitter was broadcasting the announcement).

The whole of LW band was dead ... I thought I heard some data broadcast at one point, but that turned out to be my wireless mouse!

I hope you've made a few people aware of it being stashed away?

If not, there's a real chance of it ending-up in a skip with the rest of Grandad's junk :-(

They have all gone. Radio4 was the last, kept to keep the Economy 7 time switches working...

I had the same thoughts. Without a clear warning, it will be just chucked aside and that will be all that preparation thrown away.
