Anyone here familiar enough with the DLR to answer this?

I want to take HS1 to Stratford International, get off there, get the DLR one stop to Stratford, then change there to get a DLR train (other line) to Lewisham, get off at Cutty Sark.

But the DLR site Journey planner has me doing a complex route involving zigzagging across the map. Anyone know why?

There is no direct DLR route, you would need DLR change at Canary Wharf. The DLR is painfully slow, so Jubilee Stratford to Canary Wharf is quicker.

Have you considered a Boris Bike?

email me if you want details as this could benefit from map. But in brief:

date & time matter; as does with or without luggage (I'll assume w/o)

DLR for that one stop is marginal benefit if you have full mobility: at least a couple of minutes to change stations; only ~8 minutes walk to Stratford (and that's using the roads to avoid the rolling-road-block shoppers in Westfield).

as Pancho said, there's no direct DLR service from Stratford

if you want to avoid changes there's a longer (by c.10 mins) & more expensive (as via Zone 1) )route: Central Line from Stratford to Bank, then DLR from Bank to Cutty Sark

I still have to get to Stratford from Stratford International. And somewhere on the DLR site it said that trains go beyond Canary Wharf at busy times. And even if they don't, changing DLR at Canary Wharf is just crossing the platform.

I guess you can get the DLR to Canary Wharf from Stratford, it is just other ways are quicker, which is why you were getting weird directions.

I don't know your age or fitness but the Boris Bike would be a nice ride

  • you could go under the Greenwich foot tunnel. It would probably be quicker too.

Even if I untick all the prefs boxes to force it to give me a DLR-only route, it's still Stratford -> Canning Town -> WestFerry -> Cutty Sark. I mean - FFS!

SO why not go to St Pancreas. There is a direct train to Greenwich.

Mmmmmmyes - apparently so.

Wot, no Mornington Crescent? :-)

You'd need to check on times. Lots of these local services are nothing like as frequent as before Covid. Then, trains from here to Victoria were every 10 minutes or so. Now fewer trains - or fewer stopping - and have had to wait 30 minutes. Meaning it's easier to just use the car.
