...in summer! That's more than 'Wind' or 'Solar'!

Maybe they are taking advantage of good weather tto do the maintenance of the turbines etc. It would be a swine to do in a force 6 gale, after all. I though we used wood chippings these days? Brian

What seems to be happening is that gas prices are through the roof and coal is cashing on on the high spot electricity prices. I don't understand why we were running OCGT yesterday though

Where does the gas price hike leave Germany in terms of energy production?

And we've got a decent amount of solar ATM. Imagine what it'll be like in February with a blocking high over the UK and the rest of Europe!

I was a little surprised when I went past Ratcliffe this morning to see the cooling towers in action ...

Germany doesn't use gas for electricity very much. It uses coal - braunkol - lignite, hydro and nuclear power.

wont be any solar after dark!

I came here to query that as well. OCGT running today and I can't see how that relates to gas prices apart from costing even more.

Cheers

Dave R

It may be that the fast online time is able to take advantage of spikes in price that a CCGT cannot BUT I am guessing totally

Yes!

All the coal they can get and asking big industrial users can they switch off !....

S**te street in other words....

In article <sh7655$a88$ snipped-for-privacy@dont-email.me, Brian Gaff (Sofa) snipped-for-privacy@blueyonder.co.uk> scribeth thus

No their not Brian, its because theres sod all wind on the go and its been that way for quite some time now.

Wind is a very fickle source of power...
