Obligatory Gridwatch plug

Just check today and see how much of the total demand is being met from wind and solar.

5.95% + 3.11% = 9.06%

Which is significantly more than when I looked a few hours back.

At least they have wound the coal back from yesterday.

TNP will have to find room for a couple more inter connector dials soon, construction of IFA2 from Normandy to near Lee on the Solent in Hampshire is fairly advanced and last week another cable project promoted by another group intended to run from France and come ashore at Southsea/Portsmouth started to go through the planning process.

Portsmouth Council is objecting because the company wants to lay the cable under the city streets on its way to a National Grid connection inland from the city, IFA-2 is taking a different route around and under the edge of the Solent from the convertor station being built at Lee to connect to Chilling substation near Warsash which used to be one of the connection points for the now closed and in the process of being demolished Fawley Power station from which a cable tunnel runs under Southampton Water.

Just hope the French keep their nuclear plants going for a while yet to make it worthwhile.
