OT Clarkson. You couldn't make it up!

The Labour party isn't socialist, it's capitalist-lite.

I don't know what part of the world you're from Tim. but here in the UK the "house newspaper" of the Labour Party, following the closure of the "Daily Herald" in the 1960's has been the "Daily Mirror". Which in fact has supported the Labour Party ever since at least 1945, if not earlier.

As I explained already the Guardian supports the Liberal Democrats, as it did in the last General Election.

"The Liberal Democrats picked up the endorsement of The Guardian and The Observer, but lost the endorsement of The Independent."

One can only assume you're weren't around at the time of the last General Election Tim, so that maybe your knowledge of English politics and newspapers derives from online postings made by residents of trailer parks in the Southern States of USA. Many of whom seem to spend most of their time posting comments on the "Guardian" Comment is Free (CIF) forums.

An understandable mistake to make, perhaps.

I'm wondering what yours is. Anyone with the deposit can be a candidate to become an MP.

To become the official labour party candidate for a particular constituency, you have to be voted in by the local party members. I'd guess no different from any other party.

Of course a union may have a large number of party members, so can have a great deal of influence in certain areas. But doesn't appoint MPs.

Might be better if it did. Get some MPs with real work experience rather than the usual public school boys.

What innovation in the printed Daily Telegraph is alleged to be driving away its older readers? I know of none. The paper is certainly losing readers all the time, but then so are all newspapers, including the Guardian. That's because so many people under 35 (and plenty over it) never buy a newspaper, they only read news on the Web.

It's nothing to do with "experienced staff jumping ship", that's just self-serving twaddle. In any case they are by and large not "jumping ship", they're being sacked to save money. On *all* newspapers.

Business don't try to dictate who should be a candidate whereas unions do. Businesses don't threaten to withdraw funding if the right candidates don't get selected.

Yes the Labour party is full of them.

Unions can't dictate who is elected as candidate. That is done by party members.

How would you know if they did?

OTOH, David Cameron is the first public school educated PM since Sir Alec Douglas-Home.

That last should, of course, read Conservative PM.
