OT: Alexa getting really annoying

For some reason recently every time I stream any video on my iPad the Amazon Echo insists on playing the soundtrack over the Echo. I don't know what I have done to cause this and worst still do not know how to stop it. Any clues?

Maybe the Echo has connected itself over Bluetooth.

Must be a real boon to the guys at GCHQ & NSA having people bugging their own homes these days. ;->

I asked Alexa what a listening station was. She/it said it was for monitoring radio waves & something similar. Asking if Alexa was monitored by a listening station it gave a spiel about its privacy policy etc etc - no getting honest involved.

Pull her chips out one by one, until she sings "Bicycle Made For Two".

Well, what happens if you hit the button that stops it from changing its mind, so to speak, the one behind the one with the dot on it. I do not use bluetooth myself so I do not know how that bit works, bit if you go into the app when its doing it and go to settings I'm sure you will find the answer, also you can send them a message from the ap, and shock horror even ask them to ring you at no cost to you. Well, I'm sure it could be hacked to do that. If you look in the app at the history you can see what it heard and what it did and even play back the audio if you want. Sadly for GCHQ, the thing only listens briefly. The only time this is not the case is when you use it in guard mode to listen for breaking glass or other noises when you are out, and then I understand you can only hear that if you have the password I've not tested it myself. Do you get the same problem with any audio playing over the Echo rather tha n the iPad internal speakers? I assume you've paired your iPad with your Ec ho? Perhaps in the bluetooth settings you can tell it to either disconnect from the Echo device if you want to use the bluetooth pairs or just tell it to forget the pairing.

Even Orwell didn't see that coming :-|

That's what she tells you it does. What she actually does may be another thing entirely.

And why are all these assistants given female-sounding names?

Perhaps I've answered my own question there :-)

I think it's called equality, we push it here at uni, where the female memebers of staff get to go home early if the weathers bad, and only the men are expected to carry parcels.

When I asked the head of our equality commitee about it he said he fights for womens rights. Which is why on the course I was sent on where 12 males sat for 1/2 hour listening to someone go on about possible dangers of lifting and going into unkown areas while pregnant, not one female attended this course.

Switching off Bluetooth has set things back to normal but I am beginning to subscribe to the conspiracy theory since I have done nothing actively to e nable Bluetooth and have not used the app since I set it up last Xmas. Is t his AI or are the robots taking over the world? Maybe I should ask Alexa?

If Alexa and the iPad have already been paired usng Bluetooth then the default is for them to connect automatically when they're in close proximity.

Turn off Bluetooth on the iPad.
