Office chair gas lift

Hi, Is the gas lift thing supposed to have some sponginess, or is it meant to be pretty much rock hard? I have a new office chair with a lovely padded seat, but the gas lift has no bounce, whereas my old chair has a solid seat (very old), but the gas lift is bouncy.

Usually there is a lock that sets a fixed height, once you have used the lift to get to the height that you want.

On mine, there's about an inch of "give" from the gas spring, and about the same from the seat material.

All the ones I've used are bouncy unless the seat is at the bottom of its travel.

Mine isn't.

Do you know the make/model of the chair?

It's an Amazon one. On checking, it does actually move about half an inch under my 80kg, but that wasn't at all obvious from the compression of the seat padding and the cushion that I have on top of that. It certainly moves less than many "office chairs" from my working days.

Most seem to have bounce in my less than expert experience. Brian
